Who Are WE?...We're the Breeders that Really Do Care!
Glider Invasion consists of several families, one human family and a couple of furry ones. But all families are treated with respect, consideration, care and allot of LOVE.
We have all parents of our babies here in our home. So you can rest assured that they are not the horrible "Mill Bred" gliders, as the ones that come for the pet stores. Our gliders are held every day/night. And mostly ride in my sports bra, through-out the day.
Perspective parents are encouraged to come to our home.
The PLUS side of this is; we get to interview parents in person, take all the time needed to help educate & fine tune all the information you have read, make new friends, be assured parents are comfortable enough with us, to call with ANY questions. AND, new parents get to meet our little "families" & their joeys. As well as the chance to see our Breeding Program in practice.
To Insure the Safety & Welfare of our Gliders:
Our first concern is the health & happiness of the little gliders.
Glider Invasion Reserves the right to refuse or postpone the adoption of any glider.
We request before considering to breed:
that you find out, all information possible on the other glider (if not adopted from Glider Invasion). We strongly discourage and will have no part of farther inbreeding sugar gliders or any animal. "YOU" may be the one buying the joeys of these inbred parents!
we require this in order to:
1st, to be sure it's not a related one from Glider Invasion.
2nd,to insure the female is at LEAST a year old. Becoming a mother while still growing herself, with 1-2 joeys depleting her of badly needed nutrients, can be very hard on her young body. But if she gets sick (even UTI) can result in joeys being pulled in an attempt to save her life.
3rd, to allow Glider Invasion to attempt to make sure that other glider is NOT a rescue and your not breeding problems into a joey from a Mill bred/pet store glider. As we retain all records on all our gliders & their status.
And 4th, to help in an attempt to get all possible information on the breeder of your perspective suggie. A trusted breeder is as important as your family doctor!
*We also request first rights of refusal, for any reason, parents are no longer able to care for their suggie. WE DO NOT TAKE IN RESCUES. However, we will take in our own gliders (ones born here) after being cleared through our vet, if they have to give up their forever home, for any reason. In this case, there will be no questions asked as to why it is considered best to be surrendered.
In a case in which we are not able to take the glider back in; We will help to screen perspective parents, help educate and revise ownership of records and/or pedigree. We are committed to do all we can, to insure our babies the best possible home, as well as making it a pleasant adoption as possible for you!
We discourage the breeding of sugar gliders until you have experience with gliders for at least a year. This is due to mainly the little knowledge & support of caring for a "breeding" pair of gliders, proper care of a rejected joey and the amount of time involved in saving it/them, not to mention the amount of time spent in simple proper care, time consumed in screening "possible" owners and hours in educating.
Lack of time and dedication WILL result in the joeys death! (At the worse)
At the very least: untamed, biting wild babies!
Anything less, is not RESPONSIBLE BREEDING!
We believe ;
Selling Gliders that are Related Should NOT be Legal!!
We at Glider Invasion STRONGLY discourage and are completely against, purchasing pets from following places: Pet Stores, Flea Markets, Gun Shows, (yes, Gun Shows) the mall, fairs or any place where there are uneducated and impulsive crowds of people.
Or any pet, for that matter, from these places. These are MILL BRED Gliders, that come from the Glider Mills of Texas.
There is a big difference in a Private Breeder Glider & a "Mill Bred" glider.
A "Breeding Mill" is where all are bred together, mothers & sons, sisters, & brothers, father & daughters. They are not handled until you get them home. Purchased in the day (their sleeping time) ,waking up that night all alone, except for these strange humans., grabbing, poking & saying "let's play". They are scared half to death, will lunge & bite new parents (or worse - bites the child). Not a happy situation!
There are horror stories from people that have lost gliders
to liver failure or organs not developed properly. 2nd concern is the
"wasted" money of new parents attempting to save their much wanted
suggie, all to often to have to watch it die, regardless of effort &
money spent. When questioned,- bought from a pet store, flea markets,Pet Expo's, etc. This is due to inbreeding!
New parents are being sold; Bird cages, Heat Rocks - which should NEVER be put in with a glider. They are being told "They only go to the bathroom once a day", "Just give them a piece of wheat bread & an apple, once a day for the first 6 months".
We have been breeding for going on 13 years, and not once have we ever heard of a "Private breeder", EVER housing a glider in a bird cage, using a heat rock to burn their gliders, nor giving a glider bread -of any kind!
They sleep in the day & sometimes will come out for a drink & maybe a snack. Cheerios, won't go bad or draw fruit flies if 'you', need to use a staple.
And all Breeders will tell you, they pee & poo, whenever they want. Which is almost every time you wake them up.
So BEWARE of those that sell the glider, get their money, say if any questions, "just call Lisa, at Sun Coast (which is also a glider Mill), & then disappear! Lisa did not sell you the glider! The so called, "breeder" should be there to answer all your questions. Before & after the sale!
Gliders from a "reliable" breeder, have human contact
daily, which makes them tame before you get them, is willing to give
you the full history of your glider , answer all your questions, and do not trade related gliders with other breeders. And you can ask to see parents or find where it came from,
before purchasing. They don't sell you products you are not suppose to use. AND they charge the same price, for a completely healthy glider, as the Mill Breeders charge for a sick one!! You do the math.
But the most important factor they are given, from a "Reputable" Private Breeder - is lots of love!!
Whether you adopt from us or not, be sure it's from a private breeder, one that will give you straight answers, and not afraid to let you see how they are housed, willing to talk to you and show you their glider families, does NOT take in rescues, does NOT feed pellets as diet, is able to have gliders on hand, or without any wait!!!.
Best if possible:
Trying to find one of the same age AND same sex, as well as easier bonding to you and to each other, is harder as they get older. Then you must check out, yet another breeders ethics on breeding!
New parents MUST do research on diet & care, first.
We will HELP with more detailed questions, such as, what to do when they get
home, introduction, easier bonding, comfort of glider & parents.
As well as Questions, before & after adoption.
But parent/s must do DIET, housing
& health, research for themselves, before suggie will be adopted out.
Our gliders are not pet store gliders.
They are treated as well as any family member. (Sometimes- better!)
Always ask, ask, ask... questions!
Are they housed with the family, as a pet?... Not in a separate building or the garage, as I have heard of some doing.
Are both parents on site?...to insure it's NOT a rescue glider.
Ask to see parents of your glider and see if the breeder will allow it to go back in the cage with the parents!
Do the cages show care & love?
Is this the place & the way, you would want your child to be raised?
Since your suggie IS truly loved as one of your family members!
Consider all risks of a 'reputable breeder' that takes in 'rescues'!
Rescues all need our help, but not at the risk of taking them into the home,
where the ones you are about to purchase is being housed.
This can transmit parasites to other/all gliders other family pets and even family members!
Timonium Fair grounds: Favorite selling place of ..(not so) Perfect Pocket Pet. Prays on the 'impulse' buyer, who has done no research.
Fin & Fur Pet Store in Brick, N.J. : "says" their gliders are 'imported' from Australia & other countries. When importing gliders from Australia has not been legal for many years. Also, they are Trolling for breeders to do "importing & exporting" for them.(I was asked several times myself)! the nerve!Chantilly Mall, Pet Expo in Va. DO NOT EVEN SHOP AT THIS MALL! THE MALL MANAGER SUPPORTS POCKET PETS SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY RENT A SPACE FROM THEM EVERY SPRING (@ APRIL). Security at this eventl, prevents people from distributing handouts with ONLY information on what to look for in a healthy glider. Stop our freedom of speech by calling police to prevent us from "talking" to people about gliders health.
Today's Pets: Mill gliders, gives NO information & sells to anyone with money, no age limit, sells “Pulled” joeys & untamed juveniles & adults.
· Perfect Pocket Pets (PPP) L Selling sick & unweaned joeys, giving false information, possible ties to Custom CageWorks, other reasons too numerous to mention here****
· Helen's Little Critters: Inhumane practices, Neutering joeys with no anesthetic
· Red River Exotics: Selling joeys too young
· Mike McGrath (Sugar Glider Connection): Neutering joeys with no anesthetic, cruelty, abusive practices. Glider
Or any person who tries to fast talk you and sell you more than what you want . TWO gliders is 'needed'. Anything over two is 'wanted'! Just be sure it's YOUR idea to purchase more!
· Custom CageWorks: Steve Larkin - Glider Mill
· Flying Fur Ranch: Susan S. Glider Mill
· Herpeton (Pet store in Austin, TX): Abusive practices
· Animals Exotique: Inhumane practices **
· DMX Exotics: Inhumane practicesNIKKI in Greenmont Md: "paints" her homemade cages that killed gliders, breeds and sell rescues not raised in her home.. (per her own words to me)!
This list does not include trade & Gun Shows, Pawn Shops, Flea Markets, Fairs, Malls, Pet Expos ; such as at; Dulles Airport and other pet stores, or where ever there is a crowd of unsuspecting people and impulse buyers!
We feel these should not ever have sugar gliders, and therefore, we have a boycott overall, regardless.
